AKIN is a group, currently composed of four artists, Leonie King and Margaret Irwin who are printmakers, Jay Murphy and Dolores Lyne who are painters.

They have been exhibiting together as a group since 1992, while also exhibiting their work individually.

Recently, Margaret Irwin has been awarded a prestigious Lifetime Acheivement Award from Galway County Council. Her career has spanned over 6 decades, her work collected by many, and viewed by a countless number in that time.

The AKIN dynamic is special. They benefit from the solid 'kinship' which has arised from exhibiting together. Reflecting on the 'Charles Harper Selects' exhibition in March 08, it is easy to understand why artists 'select' each other, join together, push each other forward. Groups, Communities, and familes of artists can only contribute to the advancement of visual culture.

In 2002-2003 AKIN toured the Art Centres of Ireland with the support of Galway County Council. This tour culminated in a major exhibition in Galway Arts Centre in 2003.

AKIN was awarded with a Galway County Council Arts Award in 2004.

Each artist's works are represented in many important private and public collections.
